Group Leader
Andrew Daley
Andrew grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, where he completed
his Masters degree in Physics in 2002. He received his PhD from the University of
Innsbruck in 2005, working in the group of Peter Zoller, on simulation and
manipulation of cold atoms in optical lattices. He held an assistant
position at the University of Innsbruck and then a senior scientist
position at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of
the Austrian Academy of Sciences until December 2010. In January 2011 he
began a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh. In his spare time he enjoys
Music (including playing the trumpet and piano), theatre, travelling, and watching and participating in a variety of sports.

Postdoctoral Researchers
Stephan Langer
Office: 209 Allen Hall / e-mail: sml110 [at] pitt.edu
Stephan grew up in Lüdenscheid and studied physics at RWTH Aachen
University from which he graduated as Diplom-Physiker in 2009. He then
continued his work with Fabian Heidrich-Meisner in the group of Ulrich
Schollwöck at LMU Munich from which he got his PhD in 2012. The focus
of his research up to now was on transport and real-time dynamics in
one-dimensional quantum magnets and ultra-cold atomic gases. In cases
of spare time he is looking forward to playing his bass guitar, exploring
Pittsburgh by bike and to his first penguins game.

Graduate Students
Anton Buyskikh
Office: 200 Allen Hall / e-mail: anb158 [at] pitt.edu
Anton was born and raised in Rybinsk, Yaroslavl
region, Russia. Then he moved to St. Petersburg where he studied and
graduated from the Polytechnical University and presented a master's
thesis "Generation of THz radiation in semiconductor nanowires under
femtosecond optical excitations". In his free time he likes active sports
and reading.
Saubhik Sarkar
Office: 200 Allen Hall / e-mail: sas267 [at] pitt.edu
Saubhik is from a small town in the eastern part of India. He did his undergrad in Physics at St. Stephen's College, New Delhi and then got his Master's degree (Physics) from IIT Kanpur in 2010. He now works with Andrew Daley at the University of Pittsburgh. In his free and not-so-free times he is involved in world film, music, sports and daydreaming about travelling the world.
Guanglei Xu
Office: 200 Allen Hall / e-mail: gux11 [at] pitt.edu
Guanglei grew up in Shijiazhuang, Hebei, not far from Beijing. He graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in Shanghai, and moved to Chicago for his master's degree at the Illinois Institute of Technology, 2010. Now he is working with Andrew Daley in Pittsburgh and Rolando Somma at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. In his free time, music is always around him.
Former Group members
Johannes Schachenmayer
PhD 2012, Postdoc 2013, now a Postdoctoral Fellow at JILA, Boulder, Colorado
Johannes grew up in Zwiesel, a small town in Bavaria, Germany. He studied Physics at the Technical University in Munich and graduated as "Diplom-Physiker" in 2008. In his diploma-thesis he worked on "Dynamics and Long-Range Interactions in 1D Quantum Sytems" together with Andrew Daley and Peter Zoller at the University of Innsbruck. He is currrently working on his PhD thesis with Andrew Daley as a visiting scholar at the University of Pittsburgh. When he has no free time he misses paragliding, travelling or playing the piano.
